Custom Metal Sculpture and Architectural Panels

In addition to designing and fabricating custom corten steel planters, I create custom aluminum and corten steel sculpture, metal panels and architectural elements.

My custom metal panels, like my planters, are unique for each project. The design process is similar to the one I use for my planters but there is usually more creative freedom and exploration involved.

I really love designing and fabricating custom panels as they demand that I push the bounds of my creativity while staying focused on the functional requirements of the project.

I utilize hand crafting in synergy with highly technical laser-cutting and bending to achieve something new, unique and targeted to my client’s desires and needs for their project.

Most of my panel projects require complex builds and installation as they are often very large and need to be installed in elevated window openings and spaces. This image shows an architecural powder-coated aluminum panel that was 18’ tall. The top of it was secured 30’ above the ground. Each of the grid sections was precisely bent on a hydraulic press brake and then welded to the tubular frame by hand. This effort achieved the goal of creating a dynamic, shifting field of reflection and shadow.

Creating Custom Metal Sculpture and Architectural Elements

Creating unique metal sculpture, whether an architectural panel or a free-standing abstract sculpture for a specific site installation is rewarding and challenging. As an industrial designer I was trained to develop an understanding of production processes and the limits of material. As a metal artist, I use that knowledge and experience to push myself and the material to manifest the design concepts I dream up.

My clients and I truly collaborate on every sculptural work. At times, a client will provide a very specific design brief we create but usually we develop the concept together.

The image below shows the completed installation of numerous large steel architectural panels. I designed and fabricated them for a new restaurant in Boca Raton, FL. My client, the interior designer for the project, asked me to create the feel of an exclusive, private dining area without actually seperating it from the rest of the large, open floor plan.

As I mentioned on my home page, click here, I utilize parametric CAD software to develop and refine my designs. This enables me to develop multiple variations on a single concept to discuss with my client. The creation of multiple concept drawings and renderings enables us to more effectively and efficiently arrive at a final design.

The powder-coated aluminum sculpture in the image below was commissioned for a home renovation in Delray Beach, FL. using this design process. When a final design was selected, everyone involved felt excited and confident that it had been thoroughly refined.

Unleashing Creativity: Crafting Metal Sculpture Arts for Outdoor Spaces

As an industrial designer and metal sculptor, I’m captivated by the artistry of shaping industrial materials into works of beauty.

Using advanced 3D modelling software, I create and refine design concepts with my clients until an ideal solution emerges. This iterative process allows clients to visualize ideas before fabrication, ensuring that every detail is harmoniously aligned.

Once the design is perfected, I begin the fabrication process using hand-forming, machine forming and laser-cutting technology. The hand finishing process is time consuming, precise and essential to do correctly.

The final step is installation and I collaborate with you and your design team to anchor and position the metal garden sculpture flawlessly.

My custom metal outdoor sculpture adds visual impact and cohesion to a landscape, garden or commercial space. Each piece is tailored to the client and location. Popular Types of Metal Sculpture for Outdoor Landscapes

I always look for ways to add visual interest to outdoor spaces. One of my favorite techniques as a product and industrial designer is incorporating custom metal sculpture art. It provides stunning focal points, especially when thoughtfully integrated into the overall design.

Here are some popular sculpture types and material choices:

  • Corten Steel: This is a popular type of metal for outdoor sculptures with a rusty, weathered patina that gives it a natural, earthy look. It blends beautifully into gardens and more naturalistic designs. Corten steel planters are a favorite application of this material.

  • Aluminum: Another popular choice for outdoor sculptures is aluminium. It has a sleek and modern aesthetic. There is a myriad of powder-coat color and texture options to choose from.

  • Metal Wall Art Sculptures: Examples include metal trellises, screens, or panels. Even small panels can have a significant impact on the overall visual appeal of the space.

  • Freestanding Sculptures: Ideal for larger properties, freestanding sculptures can serve as stunning focal points. Some popular options include abstract sculptures, kinetic sculptures with moving parts, and nature-inspired pieces like leaves, flowers, or birds.

The great thing about metal wall sculpture art is that the possibilities are endless. As an industrial designer, I work closely with my clients to create a project unique to their vision and space. Using parametric CAD software and 3D rendering, we can explore different designs, sizes, patinas, and placements before settling on the perfect metal sculpture piece to enhance their landscape.

Transform Your Space with Custom Metal Sculptures

As mentioned already, as a product designer, I specialize in creating unique, custom metal or aluminum sculptures for residential and commercial spaces. I work closely with my clients to bring their creative visions to life. Using computer-aided design (CAD), I create design renderings to help them visualize their enhanced landscape and feel confident in their choice prior to proceeding to fabrication.
